Mike Sherman, the founder of Chinatown Market, is already a veteran of streetwear culture, despite being only 27 years old. All thanks to his work as an assistant designer at the Nike Bowery Stadium concept store, a freelance designer at KITH, and as the founder of his own brand ICNY.
The brand is engaged in pirate trolling of global fashion giants and show business representatives with humor and youthful maximalism.
If conventional brands from the fashion and street-fashion segment have to dictate what will be in fashion in the coming seasons, then Chinatown Market is free to explore the market as it wishes.
"I don't copy other streetwear brands," he says. "I don't look at what's happening in the industry. That's not what we're here for. We're here to take on the big corporate monsters and bring them down."
