Three critical mistakes in setting up targeted advertising on Facebook and Instagram

When launching ads on Facebook and Instagram, all newcomers make the same mistakes. In this article we will look at how not to make mistakes and set up advertising that really works not drains the budget.

So, the main mistakes are:

1. Set up advertising on Instagram from the application.

Yes, many people still do not know that Instagram and Facebook are one company, and these social networks have one advertising tool – Facebook Ads.

The ability to launch targeting through the Instagram application is very limited: you can only advertise an existing post in the feed, and tools for audience selection and budget optimization are reduced by almost half compared to the advertising office. This is to make you spend more money. So if you are not yet familiar with Facebook Ads and still “set up advertising” by clicking on the Advertise button – get out of the comfort zone and master your advertising office.

2. Incorrectly targeting.

For example, geotargeting settings should remove “travelers”. By default, this setting looks like “Live here or recent visitors.” Don’t spend money on “Recent Visitors” and “Travelers” – they are not your target audience.

Also, don’t forget to specify the language, even if you have marked the geolocation.

In “Audience Settings”, expand the “Advanced Options” tab and in the “Languages” section, specify the language that your audience is likely to know (for example, Ukrainian and Russian). Otherwise, the ad will be shown to those who do not speak these languages.

3. Do not read the rules of Facebook

This error occurs in 60% of people who are just starting to make target adds. And before posting on Facebook or Instagram, the advertising campaign is considered by the moderator for violating Facebook rules.

 Check the image, text, targeting, and landing page to which the URL leads.

In short, it is prohibited:

– smoking promotion;

– advertising of drugs and food supplements;

– goods and services for adults.

– placement of images of body parts, such as the abdomen, buttocks or chest (even a deep neckline – a reason to refuse moderation);

– content that demonstrates the state of “before” and “after”.

Of course, if you are a beginner, you will still have to go your own way and gain experience. However, even a beginner should be armed with information – this will help avoid many common mistakes.
